Hello, You can use GParted or Partion Magic to delete existing partitions. Not sure why it’s not working for you unless you didn’t apply the changes when you finished creating the partitions. Hope this helps. Greg

    Pt3:
P.S.the existing english OS boots up fine & recognizes the full volume of the HDD so i’m stumped.

    Pt2:
ive tried using partition magic to leave the existing OS in a small partition while loading the spanish one in the larger one (making partitions for documents of course). but it didnt work, i went as far as using the command line to try to format from cd (proper one this time) and it failed to work, i also using the CL tried dismounting the drive but it remainded locked. Please help me if you have any idea what could be causing this (i dare not think the worst)

    pt1:
I tried formating using a diferent language OS cd, (this was necessary as the machine has been sent to a spanish speaking country). I mistakenly used the spanish os XpSp2 cd i have instead of the new XpSp3 one I’d just bought. the problem resulted in that after negating the action due to the spanish OS being a previous version, i tried to run it direct fom cd as it mentioned in the denegation note & i had a read disc error appear after which that istallation appears on the boot screen.

Hello, i thought your tutorial was great! very direct & ot the point with simple instructions even the worst of us can make sense of. I have a sight problem & am wondering if you have any tutorials on using GParted to fully erase a HDD thats not allowing itself to either be formated or disengaged from system in order to do a fresh install.
I’l list a little history of the problem so you may (hopefully) get a better idea of it.

thnx for any & all help you may be able to provide.
